Bicycle Law Information

PENNSYLVANIA BICYCLE HELMET LAW

Pennsylvania law requires all children under the age of 12 to wear an approved bicycle helmet.  These helmets should meet ANSI, SNELL, ASTM or any other nationally recognized certification standard.  The law excludes operators of three-wheeled, pedal-driven vehicles with a main driving wheel of 20 inches in diameter or less and primarily designed for children six (6) years of age or younger.  Please remember that cyclists must follow all motor vehicle laws.

Always operate your bicycle traveling with the flow of traffic rather than against it.

The Towamencin Police Department provides bicycle safety programs at schools for various grade levels in our community.  We also conduct annual "Bike Rodeos" at these schools as well.

The Towamencin Township Police Department also provides a free bicycle registration program for township residents.  Bicycle registrations may be obtained at the police department office during normal business hours.
